Wilderness Safety and Survival (WSS) Level 3
(spend a whole night in the wilderness)

Intended audience:

General public, Preppers’, Outdoor enthusiasts, Snowmobilers, ATV riders, Hunters, Sport and
Commercial fisherman, Canoeists, Hikers, Mushroom and Berry pickers, Ice road travelers,
Back  country/Remote workers, etc.

Overview:

Get a real taste of survival!! Imagine building your own survival shelter, sitting around a crackling fire that you built, watching the stars, and sipping on hot wild rose hip tea. Those are only a few of the things you will do during the Wilderness Safety and Survival Level 3. Spend two full days and one night in a beautiful wilderness setting learning to survive. The very knowledgeable ICSOS instructors prepare you for this amazing experience through the Wilderness Safety and Survival Levels 1 & 2 and continue to provide excellent training and support throughout the Level 3. Definitely a weekend you won't forget! So you think you have enough firewood to last the night?

Course includes:

  • Strictly hands-on training.
  • Two full days (with overnight) filled with demonstrations and enough time to practice.
  • An overnight stay in a shelter you have created.
  • Transportation from Winnipeg to the training area and return.
  • A certificate upon completion.


Passive survival is the focus.

You will receive:

  • Both theory and hands-on training.
  • Three full days (with overnight) filled with demonstrations and enough time to practice.
  • An overnight stay in the shelter you have created.

Main teaching points include (but not limited to):

 

Practical training:

  • First Aid - Awareness is the key!!!!
  • Fire - Multiple methods under varying conditions.
  • Shelter - Varying types, materials, placements and the pros & cons of each.
  • Signals - Being seen is being rescued!!!!! ( flares,mirrors,flags, and more )
  • Water - Purification tabs, pumps, filters , when and where.
  • Food - Passive techniques for harvesting common plants and animals.

Duration:

2 Days with overnight

Day 1 :  8 hours of outdoor instruction and participation
Overnight: 16 hours of concurrent activity
Day 2: 8 hours of outdoor instruction and participation, concluding in a group debriefing

Cost:  $250.00 (plus applicable taxes)

Prerequisites:

  • ICSOS Wilderness Safety and Survival Level 1 & Level 2
  • Proper equipment and environmental clothing as per Kitlist
  • Open mind
